Sustainable Forestry

It is vital that today’s world understands what sustainable forestry is and why it is important. We at Woodgrain understand this importance and our striving to do the best that we can to implement it.

What is Sustainable Forestry?

Sustainable forestry is simply the balancing of the needs of the environment and wildlife of the forest with the needs of humans. It is all about caring and managing forests in a responsible way in order to provide the natural resources that we will need now and in the future. Through the right continued balance, forests will be able to stay healthy and stable while effectively providing the needed resources for the increasing demands of the world.

How Does Sustainable Forestry Work?

Sustainable forestry actually helps to make forests healthier than they have ever been. There are many things within a forest community that is actually harmful to the forest. Sustainable forestry plays the part of minimizing these harmful threats, thus allowing the forest to thrive. One part of sustainable forestry is to control overgrowth by thinning. This simply means removing older trees so that new ones may begin growing and also to help prevent wildfires. Check here for more information about how sustainable forestry works.

Why is Sustainable Forestry Important? Why Do We Need It?

Aside from keeping forests healthy and helping to prevent wildfires, there are many reasons why sustainable forestry is important. The picture above is a great representation of why we need strong sustainability. What this diagram shows is that the economy is reliant on society, and society is dependent on the environment. If the environment suffers, so does society. And if society suffers, then the economy suffers. As you can see, how well forests are managed can greatly affect us as a society and also as individuals. How is Woodgrain Implementing Sustainable Forestry?

Woodgrain uses vertical integration. This means that we own every step of the process from owning the forests to making the products. Because we own the forests that we use, we are able to have control over how the forests are managed. We work in accordance with the FSC (Federal Stewardship Certification) which confirms that the forest is being managed in a way that preserves the natural ecosystem and benefits the lives of local people and workers.
