90s Nostalgia Interior Design
The 90s was an influential time for fashion and music. The Spice Girls, Blink 182, and the band everyone loves to hate, Nickleback, made the era iconic to say the least. We can’t forget about the influence the 90s had on interior design. The 90s inspired graphic colors & patterns to a more neutral Japanese interior style. We’re going to teach you how to incorporate some 90s interior styles into your home, but with a more modern twist.
Geometric Patterns
Use geometric patterns in the home. This can be anything from rugs and pillows to wallpaper or a geometric accent wall. Geometric prints can add interest to a space but be sure not to over-do it.
Pops of Color
We’re seeing more color lately in interior design and less neutrals, especially in the kitchen. Kitchen cabinets are no longer your standard white or wood tones, people have been painting them different colors. Various shades of green, seen throughout the late 80s and early 90s, is extremely popular. This should come as no surprise since green goes well with brass, another 90s trend coming onto the scene.
Knotty Pine
Knotty Pine hardwood was a staple in the 90s. Lighter woods like Knotty Pine have been popping up everywhere lately. They make for a crisp, subtle statement in homes and are perfect for someone who is wanting a clean backdrop for their home. Incorporating Knotty Pine or other light woods are also seen frequently in Scandinavian and Japandi interior design styles, which were influenced by the 90s.
Brass Accents
Brass accents add a lot of warmth into a space. This is one of the easiest way to add some 90s flare into your home. Modern homes can sometimes feel cold and uninviting, adding brass accents will instantly bring that warmth a modern space. But stay away from shiny or polished brass accents, play really well with mixed materials and finishes. Your kitchen and bathroom are spaces that you can easily add warmth in your home by simply switching out your current hardware with brass hardware.
Floral Prints/Wallpaper
Incase you haven’t noticed, floral prints and wallpaper are popping up everywhere (and we mean everywhere). This 90s trend is taking over the interior design space. This is partly due to the fact that wallpaper is more accessible than ever. We’re talking about peel and stick wallpaper. Gone are the days where wallpaper is difficult to put up and permanent. With peel and stick wallpaper it’s now easy to switch things up as trends come and go. Floral wallpaper is definitely in, but if you’re going for a more subtle look, try looking to switch up your pillows instead. Floral prints are a fresh and bold addition to any home.
